The boat: S/Y Coconut is a Contest 41 from 1985. Build in Holland of GRP. She has lived most of her life in USA but was brought to Norway in 2004 by a family living their dream of cruising the Caribbean and crossing the Atlantic. After an extensive refit in 2005 she was ready for new adventures. Coconut has three cabins, is 12,5 meters long and 3.85 wide. She only draws 1.80 as she has a winged keel. Coconut weights 12,5 tons dry. You have to add to this a few tons as she carries 800 litres of fresh water and 300 litres of diesel as well as spares, toys and food. The mast is 19.5 meters tall. We carry a mainsail, 2 x Genoas, and storm sails as well as a Spinnaker . The engine is a Yanmar 55 hp and is brand new Nov 05). We installed it in Lanzarote together with a new propeller (Flex-o-fold), new shaft, new shaft seals and couplings. We also re-insulated the engine room and installed a new hot water tank as well as a whole new fuel system.
